Running in Iten, Kenya
INFINITY

Have you ever imagined training at 2,400 metres altitude, side by side with some of the best runners in the world?

At the entrance to the village, an arch in ochre tones welcomes you: Welcome to the Home of Champions. Iten, on the Rift Valley plateau, is the mecca of world athletics. This is where Olympic champions and world record holders train, on the same red dirt roads where you'll run.

For 14 days, you'll live this unique culture from the inside: you train with an individual pacer, share meals with elite athletes and discover the simplicity of a place where the daily routine is to train, eat and sleep. Always guided by Pedro Queirós, a certified athletics coach, with a 2h38m marathon and eight altitude training camps in Kenya.

"Medals are won in training. On race day we just go and collect them."

Eliud Kipchoge, two-time Olympic marathon champion and the first man to run the distance in under two hours, trains on the same roads and tracks in Kenya where Pedro did his altitude training camps. This is the world you will step into.

On April 25, 2015, little Simran felt the earth shake in Nepal. She saw her village being destroyed in a matter of seconds, but she never lost hope. This book is part of the National Reading Plan in Portugal, and helps young people to reflect on the themes of volunteering, solidarity and what to do in the event of an earthquake.

In January 2017, Pedro Queirós unintentionally embarked on what would be his first Humanitarian Adventure: 1,200 kilometres on foot across India from the door of the Taj Mahal in Agra to the gates of Camp Hope in Kathmandu. A journey through the deepest roots of consciousness and ultimately, what defines the human being: pain, freedom and the desire to help others.

The courage to make a difference lies at the heart of being human. Portuguese Pedro Queirós and Lourenço Macedo Santos were caught up in the earthquake that destroyed Nepal on April 25, 2015, but instead of leaving the country, they decided to stay and help the people affected by the tragedy, in a mission on the ground that became known as Obrigado Portugal, nós também somos Nepal. This book, “Vocês voltam amanhã?”, has a foreword written by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres.
