Do you feel what I am feeling?
Fear, arrogance, hatred and extremism. Is this the legacy we want to leave our children? When I was younger, I was convinced that the future would be a brighter place. The young people of today, would hardly be able to say the same.
Ten years ago, on April 25, 2015, I felt the ground shake in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The city was hit by a violent earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale and, in a matter of seconds, thousands lost their lives and saw their dreams buried.
But from the rubble, an humanitarian mission was born that continues to this day.
At the time, I rolled up my sleeves and, accompanied by hundreds of donors and volunteers, helped feed thousands of people, built houses for several families, and started Camp Hope, a new home for three hundred victims of the tragedy.
On one occasion, when we were delivering food, a dirty and hungry child approached me, grabbed my arm and asked: “Will you be back tomorrow?” A decade later, these three words still echo in my mind.
Yes. I will be back today, tomorrow and always.
In recent years, I have dedicated myself, body and soul, to the children of Nepal. For that purpose, I founded a charity project called Dreams of Kathmandu. A mission defined by the principles of transparency, courage and honesty. 100% of the donations collected are given to the families involved in the cause
To ensure the viability of the project, I created the concept of Humanitarian Adventures: a magic formula that consists in overcoming great obstacles, while collecting funds from my closest community of family and friends.
Among other initiatives in recent years, I have climbed Mount Everest, ran across Japan, and walked 1,200 kilometers alone in India. All details about the adventures, donations and their application can be found here here in my website.
Do you feel what I am feeling?
Today I am here to launch a new humanitarian challenge, the biggest one to date. After having reached the top of the world, I propose to travel in the opposite direction, to the place where humanity hit rock bottom.
On April 25, 2025, the date on which the tenth anniversary of the Kathmandu earthquake is celebrated, I will set off on foot from Praça do Comércio in Lisbon, and cross Europe for 100 days to the former Auschwitz Concentration Camp, one of the greatest symbols of the Holocaust.
There I intend to pay tribute to all victims of war and hatred, regardless of the country where they were born or the God they believe in, warning of the dangers of intolerance and remembering the importance of each one of us being involved in building a more just society, not by remaining silent or pretending not to see the suffering of others, but by raising our voices in their defense.
Run for Peace is the name given to this initiative. A manifesto for peace with the purpose of raising awareness against inequality, racism, xenophobia and violence. History will not repeat itself.
On the route I intend to follow, I will complete a total of 4,200 kilometers, running and walking. The equivalent of 100 marathons in 100 days, with the aim of raising 100.000€.
My goal is to collect donations to support two noble causes:
- 50.000€ to build a new school in Nepal, in partnership with the project Dreams of Kathmandu.
- 50.000€ to support organizations committed to promote peace between Israel and Palestine, namely Hand in Hand in Hand and Combatants for Peace.
Dialogue and education are the only path to peace. Run for Peace aims to generate a global movement with thousands of people running all over the world. A testament to the present for future generations. Ordinary citizens can make a difference, and I intend to prove just that. Unite and create bridges, as opposed to divide and segregate.
See you on the road?
"Those who do not remember the past, are condemned to repeat it."
